Inaugural Gippsland Lakes Messabout

In Feburary 2008 my boys and I went for our fist cruise on my newly finished Penobscot 14. The location for this cruise was the small boating paradise that is the Gippsland Lakes.

For four days we cruised around the lakes and had a great time. We didn't get to do everything that we wanted but we did learn a lot about the new boat and just messing about in small boats.

Well we are off again on Labour Weekend 2009 (7-9th March 2009), but rather than just us I thought I would invite along others to share this experience. So this is where the idea of a Gippsland Lakes Messabout has come from.
This is a kind of a "come at your our expense", "cover your own butt", "do what you want" affaire. No extra money to pay, no responsibility given or implied on my behalf. Just a bunch of people of like interest getting together to have a bit of fun.

The home base for the Messabout will be the Lake King Caravan Park at Eagle Point. This is a great little camping ground with a friendly atmosphere, but most of all for us it situated nicely in the middle of the Gippsland Lakes. The typical wind pattern is a NW'er in the morning to take us from camp and a SE'er in the afternoon to bring us back. If the SE'er comes in strong you can sail up the windward side of Lake King and then into the mouth of the Bairnsdale River to Eagle Point.
The camp itself has a boat ramp so we can easily launch and recovery boats on a daily basis if required.

Have a look at some of links on the left hand side of this page. You will also see a slideshow of some of our pictures from last year. As you can see it is a beautiful spot.

Come and Join Us
Now, if you want to come along and join us let me know by sending me an e-mail from the link on this page. Send me a picture of your boat so I can post it on the site to show who is coming as the more we have coming the more interest we should be able to generate. And in the end this will make a more interesting event for all involved.
